History

CB Reid is a well established firm of chartered accountants in Dorchester, Dorset, and can trace our origins back over one hundred years in the county town. The firm was originally established (so we believe) in 1874 and traded for over 100 years, until 1993, as Pearce, Clayton & Maunder.

The practice merged with Weymouth firm Coyne, Butterworth & Chalmers accountants in 1995 and was operating from offices on High West Street. Then, in 1997 the practice became an independent firm under long standing partner Torben Houlberg and incorporated in 2003. In 2006 the firm established a link with a Maidenhead practice, Donald Reid & Co, and welcomed David Gordon-Smith and Daniel Reid as directors.

In 2007, we merged with Donald Reid & Co and became CB Reid Limited. We recruited Pete Cattermole as managing director to run the firm having spent many years working in one of the country’s ‘Big 4’ accountancy firms.

In 2012, the firm relocated to purpose-built offices in Poundbury on the outskirts of Dorchester recognising the need for additional space to cope with increasing staff numbers and an expanding client base. The combined group now has 3 directors. The group is focused on accountancy, tax advice, financial advice and business advisory. We aim to offer a range of expertise whilst being small enough to ensure that you remain at the centre of our focus.

The firm is currently in a period of consolidation and growth and both offices work closely together bringing their combined expertise to their clients.
