We were new to Weymouth and we asked people we knew if they could suggest a good accountancy practice. Personal recommendations speak volumes and CB Reid was highly recommended to us so we made an appointment.

They weren’t actually the first practice we visited but as soon as we met Matt, we knew that we had found the right accountants for us. We were immediately confident that he and the team would have our best interests at heart. We got on really well and we feel that it’s all about relationships; the people are the most important part.

What are the team at CB Reid like to work with?

They are ‘chalk and cheese’ compared to other accountants we met with; you never feel that they are just taking the money and doing our accounts. You just get great professionalism with a personal touch. They have taken a genuine interest in us and our business and we feel like they really care about us.

What we like is that if we don’t understand anything, we can just give them a call and they will explain fully. They always make sure that we understand what’s going to happen. They really take time out to do that.

What have CB Reid Done with Gloucester House?

  • Met with the team to understand their situation
  • Advised on business structure and recommended a partnership as we knew there would be initial losses. The partnership allowed them to carry back the initial losses against employment income from previous years (this was a new venture for both, having left employment) and generate a substantial tax repayment
  • Introduced the team to a capital allowance surveyor who identified capital allowances on integral features – these helped to create a large first year loss
  • Reclaimed tax repayment which was useful as they carried out further refurbishment work to their hotel
  • Liaised with solicitors throughout acquisition process
  • Managed ongoing accounts, tax and payroll compliance
  • Guided the team through the selection of a suitable bookkeeping package to the point where we were able to pass over this work for them to do in-house.
