HMRC’s Personal Tax Accounts (PTAs) provide taxpayers with an online platform to view and update their tax-related information in real time. PTAs offer a convenient way to manage many routine tax tasks, reducing the need to contact HMRC by phone or mail.
Every UK taxpayer has a PTA, but access requires signing up through the Government Gateway. Users may need to verify their identity to use the service.
The following services are available through your PTA:
- Check your Income Tax estimate and tax code
- Complete, submit, and view a personal tax return
- Claim a tax refund
- Review your Child Benefit
- View your income from the past 5 years
- Check how much Income Tax you paid in the past 5 years
- Manage your tax credits
- Check your State Pension
- Determine if paying voluntary National Insurance contributions is beneficial and pay online if needed
- Track tax forms submitted online
- Update or check your Marriage Allowance
- Notify HMRC of a change in name or address
- Review or update work benefits, such as company car details and medical insurance
- Find your National Insurance number
- Find your Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) number
- Check your Simple Assessment tax bill
The PTA plays a vital role in HMRC’s broader initiative to transition to a fully digital tax system.
