In 2016, new legislation was released to increase the transparency of the ownership and control of UK Companies. This legislation required UK companies and Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPS) to create a register of persons of significant control to be held at its registered office and updates filed as part of its confirmation statement process from 1 July 2016.

On 26 June 2017 further changes are required for a company to disclose their beneficial owners as part of the Fourth Money Laundering Directive (MLD4) and notify changes on a new set of forms (PSC01 – PSC09). In order to meet Companies House deadlines, changes must be recorded in the PSC register within 14 days, with the appropriate form to be filed at Companies House within a further 14 days.
