HMRC is reminding contractors and agency workers that they have published information about tax avoidance schemes and their promoters to help customers avoid or exit them.
Starting in April 2022, HMRC began the practice of publishing details about tax avoidance schemes, and to date, this list comprises information on over 35 such schemes. This listing remains dynamic and is continually updated. HMRC also shares details regarding the company officers of certain promoters, along with the marketing materials they use.
It’s essential to bear in mind that this list is not exhaustive, and there may be other tax avoidance schemes, promoters, enablers, and suppliers for which they are unable to provide information at this time.
Additionally, HMRC operates a ‘Tax avoidance – don’t get caught out’ campaign, aimed at aiding contractors in recognising the red flags of tax avoidance. The campaign encourages individuals to report suspicious companies and offers support for exiting tax avoidance schemes. HMRC also shares real-life case studies from contractors who’ve experienced the impacts of tax avoidance, providing valuable lessons for others.
